Where do we start. Thorogood's 1957 8" Moc Toe work boot is tough for the job site, yet sightly for date night. Our quick summary is this; the boot's soft, supple, and durable leather and cushioned removable footbed brings its owner instant comfort right out of the box. All made in the USA. We lament that this is not made in sizes for women because certainly two of our staffers would own a pair.
To begin, let's address the upper. The leather is full grain briar pitstop and tanned to perfection. You know what we mean by just squeezing the leather collar. A bundle of this would make a great pillow. The texture, thickness, and quality of this leather means it will conform to your foot quickly and you won't suffer a breaking-in period. At least, a prolonged breaking-in period. That's a relief with an eight-inch boot that can scruff at the collar and around the ankle joint. No worries with the 1957 8" Moc Toe. This is perfection. Did we mention the leather is waterproof?
Oh yeah, and the upper is the steel toe safety cap. You know the drill: meets or exceed impact and compression standards of 75 pounds. The whole upper is stitched in the goodyear storm welt way, which is the most sturdy and reliable.
The sole of this Thorogood boot offers supreme underfoot comfort. That is due to a few elements, the first being the removable footbed, which sports the brand's "Ultimate Shock Absorption" technology. We are talking cush, cush, cush. Beneath that and the stability-providing midsole is a fiberglass shank to provide structure and support. Capping off the 1957 8" Moc Toe is the MAXWear Wedge outsole. That cream-colored sole is slip-resistant, so you stay upright on grass and mud. It also stains lightly and with character.
We love this boot and expect it will be in our line-up for some time to come.
