The BRNR XP is a relatively new family of boots from Red Wing Shoe Company. We kicked off with the 2403 BRNR XP, and living in Maine, you can imagine how often we are asked about insulated, eight-inch styles. The 4454 BRNR XP is packed with as much comfort and durability as its six-inch cousin, with a couple of extras thrown in for good measure.. And it is made right here in the USA, too.

Red Wing added a handcrafted, premium waterproof leather to the 4454 BRNR XP, which features triple stitched leather panels and heel and toe rubber overlays. The triple stitching reinforces the high stress points of the boot (high stress because that is where your foot moves the most) while the overlays provide a bit more protection to those areas bumping into things (think a foot on the gas pedal or hitting the toe tip on a table, tire, etc). As said, the leather is waterproof and inside that leather upper is 400 grams of 3M Thinsulate insulation. With the waterproofing, consider this boot has an equivalent insulation of 600 grams. Fun little bonus there. You are looking at a non-metallic composite safety toe cap, which means depending on your shoe size, your boots are shedding anywhere from three to eight ounces worth of excess weight. These caps meet the same exact impact and compression standards of 75 pound or more when dropped from a height of eighteen inches. And yes, we love them.

With the BRNR XP family of boots, Red Wing created a specialized removable footbed called the Quadrex. It is a four-layer insole with memory foam, a microfiber top layer, a gel pad on the heel, and a molded arch for support and durability. It is proving very popular since we started stocking it in July 2018, and we are finding it works well in similarly built boot styles. The sole is excellent, with the best protection you can possibly imagine. We are talking heat resistance, abrasion resistance, gas resistance, chemical resistance, and of course the usual protections against everyday slips and oils on the job site. The 4454 BRNR XP's sole is heat resistant up to 475 degrees Fahrenheit.
